1) I need a SIGNED version of com0com for my 64 bit version of Windows. Where do I find this?
The only signed version of 64 bit com0com is located here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/com0com/files/com0com/220.127.116.11/ Don’t be tempted to download a newer version with the hopes it is signed. If you do you will get lots of errors. To fix this see the next FAQ entry.
2) The com0com link you provided is not signed!
If you download an unsigned version of com0com and then try to install the correct signed version, you will need to do the following. Uninstall the unsigned version, then install the signed version. You will receive errors. Go into the Control Panel – Device Manager and you will see the com0com driver with an exclamation mark. Double click on it, then select the Driver tab, then Uninstall. You will then get a dialog and there is a check box saying “Delete the driver software for this device”. Check this. This will remove the newer unsigned driver that Windows kept along when it did the uninstalls. Reinstall the signed driver and you are good to go.
3) I connected my KAT500 and it doesn’t work.
Open the KAT500 utility from Elecraft, and turn off “Sleep Mode”
4) I cannot log in to my ClubLog account.
The first thing to check is if you have a reserved letters in your password: Reserved letters are letters that will not work correctly with the underlying web control software. These include ? ” \ etc. These will work interactively but not through the software. Please change your password to omit these characters.
If you password is OK, then make sure you are signing in with your call sign, not email address. ClubLog allows both interactively but the @ sign is reserved as above.
5) The decoding of CW in the terminal window is not the same as that on the radio.
Make sure that there is nothing else reading CW from the radio at the same time. For example, if you have the P3 with SVGA and have enabled decoding on the SVGA, then Win4K3 and the SVGA will both be retrieving characters at the same time and only one will succeed. Therefore turn off the SVGA decoding.
6) Win4K3 Suite resets my equalizers!
When Win4K3 starts it resets both the receive and transmit equalizers to zero and then applies any preset equalizer settings that were set the last time you used the software. Presets are established by dialing in an equalizer setting, then pressing the little bar beneath the PSet1 to PSet3 buttons. If you then select that Preset, the next time you start Win4K3 it will apply this setting to the radio. That equalizer setup will remain there until you restart Win4K3 again.
7) When I click on HRD “Test” in the Terminal Logging Setup, I receive an error that it can’t connect.
If everything is setup according to the manual, then try logging a record anyways. In some cases the test button is not working. This is still being investigated.
8) The track bar sliders are blue in Windows 10
This is a “Feature” of Windows 10. In particular Windows has decided to color part of the trackbar according to the Windows Theme settings.
