Win4K4Suite Release Notes

Win4K4Suite Version 1.354, April 12, 2024

Installation

This release requires .NET 4.6 or later. In most cases this will already be installed if you allow Windows Update on Windows 10 and Windows 7 and 8. However if not, when you start the install, Windows will automatically download and install the latest release of .NET. It will then reboot your computer.

If your computer was rebooted, you will need to run the installation of Win4K4Suite again. That will install the program as usual.

If you are using an AMD system, please logoff and logon after the installation. You can uninstall previous releases at any time using the Windows control panel.

When you install a new release of Win4K4Suite, it is installed in a new folder. The old version is not automatically removed. The installation will also create new shortcuts so be sure to use the correct ones for the new version. When you are happy with the new release, just uninstall the old version using the Windows control panel.

Updated

Updated the RIT/XIT to use increments of 10Hz with the mouse wheel.
It is no longer necessary to use simple passwords for the ClubLog access.
On some systems, a missing voice for Microsoft Speech caused an error.

Added voice synthesis for the visually impaired. This is a custom implementation that allows use of the software sight unseen. The initial release works with the full size control window (not the mini screen), the first page of the settings, and the Radio Menu Items screen. Please read more about this here: Accessibility for the visually impaired. Speech may be enabled in the Tools Settings menu.

Modified the M1-M4 buttons to output the equivalent of pressing the M1-M4 buttons on the radio when in CW, FSK and PSK modes.

Fixed the use of transverters. Right clicking on the transverter button will give a list of the 12 possible transverters. This now works correctly with the K-POD as well.

Fixed:

Use of the Miniscreen lead to some strange occurrences with the MiniPan displays. This has been fixed.
Adjusted the dBm scale to more closely correspond to the radio scale.

Note: If you ever use Pan B, make sure the Sub radio is on. Otherwise there are some situations where MiniPan A will not show up. This is not from the software but rather happens on the radio itself without any software running.

Added M1 – M8 DVR memories.
Added Spectrum Frames per Second to the spectrum control panel. This can reduce bandwidth for slow connections. Default is 15 fps.
Added the Manual notch functionality to the Audio Spectrum window. Clicking in the waterfall will notch out the offending signal.

Fixed:

Quick memories M1 – M4 have been fixed and have been moved to the VFO panel. (QM1 – QM4). Right clicking of these buttons saves the current frequency.

Band edge markers were not showing
The passband on FSK and AFSK modes was not displayed correctly when the Mark Tone was changed

Fixed:

The TX Mon level was set to a wrong maximum value. This could create issues with the spectrum if set higher than the old maximum.
Long transmissions could result in a loss of the K4 Spectrum network connection.

Todo:

Check the use of Host names for the K4 connection. Currently it only accepts IP addresses.
Investigate setting the span on the radio. Currently you should only change the span from the Win4K4 panadapter.
Implement a refresh rate for the Panadapter for metered IP connections.

Win4K4Suite Version 1.260 October 12, 2022

New:

This release supports the dB/Bin panadapter functions of the Elecraft K4. To use this you must have the latest beta firmware installed on your radio. That is version R31.B2 or higher. It will not work with lower firmware revisions and has not been tested with lower revisions.
To use the panadapter functions you must be connected to the K4 with an Ethernet connection.
Once you are using the panadapters, do not change the span directly on the radio. It is not needed and will produce erroneous results.

Fixed:

If you do NOT have a K-POD you will need this release if you updated to 1.16. There is a memory leak which will show up if you do NOT have a K-POD on your system.

New:

Added support for the Elecraft KPOD. All that you need to do is plug it in. There is no configuration necessary. The buttons F1 to F8 correspond to the Function Key macros in Win4K4Suite. You can change the tuning increment using the + and – keys on your keyboard.
Updated the EiBi Shortwave database.

Fixed:

The mini screen macro file was not being loaded fully. To fix this, you need to go into the Tools, Settings macro tab and load your macro file even if it was already loaded. After this this will no longer be required.
Added a heartbeat to the ClubLog screen where it will keep the network open while running. Without this, there was a disconnect somewhere between 8 and 24 hours of use.

Win4K4Suite Version 1.14 February 20, 2022

Added support for any Jog Shuttle wheel that can generate Function key keyboard strokes. F9 and F10 will decrease and increase frequency, and the Keypad + and – will cycle through the digits in the VFO.
Added the TX Monitor / Line out function. Right click in the transmit section in the program.
Updated the EiBi Shortwave database.

Fixed:

HRDLogbook.exe was not functioning correctly.
Macros containing KPA1500 commands were not executed. This however, cannot be tested here since I do not have a KPA1500.

There are now dropdowns for the various antennas. If you right click on the TX or RX antenna button, the dropdowns will allow selection of the appropriate antenna.
The SDRPlay API 3.09 is now required. Please install the latest SDRUno to obtain the drivers.

Fixed:

There were some issues with the Tune button when the KPA1500 was used as well as the KAT500.
The power meter will now update its scale when the radio is in low power mode (0-10w)
The Check for new release now forwards the user to the correct page.
The miniscreen macros were not working
The restore zoom function in the SDRPlay screen was not operational.
When zooming in closer than 192kHz, the audio from the IQ signal was being output to the default audio device.

Since WIn4K4Suite is a new program most antivirus software will want to prevent installation. You should turn your antivirus off for the install. In addition, you may get Windows Defender blocking the software. Select More and Install Anyways. If you do not trust it, upload it to VirusTotal.com and put it through all 50+ virus scanners. Ignore the reputation positives.

There is likely to be some small issues and / or improvements needed. Please send all requests to support at va2fsq dot com. There are likely to be many updates over the next couple of months as the radio firmware matures.
